Knowledge is power! We need to collect the dad wisdom found in birth stories to help expectant fathers be the best birth partners they can be.
And by we we mean all fathers, partners and fathers-to-be out there. Most women talk about birth; most guys don’t. I’m hoping that changes, but for the guy who doesn’t want to talk, reading about other dads’ birth stories would be helpful. As I learned by talking to other dads, we have a lot more in common than we think. All those thoughts about What am I going to do at the birth or How am I going to be a dad aren’t unique to me, you or any other father to be.
I believe in a collective dad wisdom, where we can learn from our common experiences. Sharing birth stories with each other is a powerful way to start. You can think of it as debriefing if that works for you, but the idea is the same: share your birth experience so that we dads can learn from each other. If you’re down with writing a birth story and having it published here, fill out this form.
If you’re up for talking about it then give me a holler right away. I’m lining up dads to talk about birth for the podcast, and I’m not looking for any specific kind of dad or birth experience. I’m looking for different kinds of birth experiences – hospital births, homebirths, cesareans, waterbirths, you name it. The important thing is to hear about your different experiences, what you think about how it went, what you did/did not like, if you would want things to stay the same or change, and so forth. All those points of view would be of incredible help to other dads about to experience birth. If you’re cool with being interviewed, please drop us a line.
